Thirteen Facts about and using the number 13


1. Thirteen is the 6th smallest prime number.
2. 13 goes into 999,999 exactly 76,923 times
3. In Christianity 13 is the number of participants at the Last Supper.
4. In Judaism, 13 signifies the age at which a boy matures and becomes a Bar Mitzvah
5. Fear of the number 13 is termed triskaidekaphobia.
6. Thirteen is regarded as an unlucky number in many cultures
7. In Scotland, there is no gate 13 in any airport, instead there is a gate 12B.
8. In the United States there were original colonies.
9. There are traditionally thirteen steps leading up to a gallows.
10. A Rondeau is a poem with 13 lines.
11. Many tall buildings have resorted to skipping the "thirteenth floor", and number it "14.
12. There is a superstition that should thirteen sit at a table to dine, one will die in the next year.
13. There are 13 players in a rugby league team. In rugby union one of the center, most often but not always the outside center, wears the 13 shirt

Lots of 13 info. I've always liked 13 because I was 21 days overdue with my first child and she was born on the 13th. Pretty lucky for me.

Interesting. I knew some of these, but not the one about the gallows. or the Rondeau. Do American airports have a gate 13? I haven't ever noticed...

(I was thinking that maybe I shouldn't have posted that Ed Gein thing -- it's pretty disgusting -- but I am glad I did, so now you know something new. And disgusting. My BIL met him in a mental hospital in Wisconsin, and he was just a senile old guy who didn't know what he had done.)
